The Table

Ranked by average strokes to par per hole, so short rounds still count. Beat rate is the share of head-to-head match-ups won, so a twosome and a foursome carry the same weight.

Strokes over par, hole by hole. Lower is better; the tick is the turn.

Percocet Tiger won this one on the first three holes and spent the next fifteen handing it back a piece at a time, never close enough to actually lose it.

Par, par, par to open, and that was the entire margin. Phil Dickelson dropped a shot on each of the first three and was three down before either of them had hit a genuinely bad shot. The 7th did the real damage — 400 yards, the number three handicap, and it took a 7 out of Phil Dickelson and a 6 out of Percocet Tiger. At the turn it was 42 to 47 and the front nine was over as a contest.

The back belonged to Phil Dickelson, for whatever that was worth. He birdied the 11th — the only red number on either card — and cut five back to three. Percocet Tiger made four pars all day and not one of them after the 6th, played the back nine in 47, and won the round anyway. The margin sat on three from the 11th to the last, wobbling to four for exactly one hole at the 15th. They both made 7 on the closing par 5, which was about right.

Percocet Tiger 89. Phil Dickelson 92.

Strokes over par, hole by hole. Lower is better; the tick is the turn.

Percocet Tiger had this round by the throat from the 6th hole to the 13th, then lost it in about twenty minutes.

San Tan was survivable for everyone but Mijo Vato, who opened 7-6-6-5 and stood at +9 before the round had really started. Percocet Tiger turned in 39, Phil Dickelson 42, Pink Starburst 44 — and Pink Starburst's 44 was a 38 with two haymakers buried in it, a 7 on the 3rd and an 8 on the 481-yard 8th. That 8th is the number one handicap hole and it took a piece out of all four of them; nobody made par.

Superstition is where it turned. Percocet Tiger gave a stroke back on the opening par 4 and never found it again, then made 5 on a 105-yard par 3 at the 14th and the lead was gone. Pink Starburst played the nine in +1 with birdies at the 11th and the 15th — the only two red numbers on the entire card — took sole possession at the 14th, and was never caught.

Pink Starburst 77. Percocet Tiger 81. Phil Dickelson 82. Mijo Vato 88.
